The studio intends to study a building of significant value and extending the values to contemporary architecture thereby digging into the knowledge base already provided by the architecture of the Old city of Ahmedabad.
The house in the ‘Pol’ acts as a whole, which can be studied for its architectural attributes. It is studied as a repository of accumulated knowledge that is mined for the purposes of this design exercise. It becomes the basis of creating a program as an extension of the architecture in literal and figurative terms. Documentation becomes the first foray in to understanding of the building.
The studio approached design exercise with many interim workshops that focused on developing visualisation and communication skills. More specific attention is given to understanding the importance of natural light and its nuances.
