Trash-to-Treasure School Shelter at Shri A.K Patel High School

Designed by Aspiring Architects from Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University

A sustainable shelter project at Shri A.K. Patel High School in Jaspur, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, was designed and built by students from Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. This is a short summary of this project:

 Sustainable Transformation in 11 Days

•       Waste materials were transformed into a functional and appealing leisure area at the school by Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University’s second and third-year students.
•       Plastic bottles, PVC pipes, old tires, brickbats, and discarded kulhads were used to demonstrate the potential of reusing waste.

Reduced Carbon Impact

•       The carbon footprint of this project was minimized by repurposing discarded materials, which reduced the need for new resources.
•       The recycling of 90% of the materials used makes it cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

 Design and Functionality

•       The design connects with the surroundings by integrating natural elements.
•       The structure was safe and simple to disassemble, and it provided a sensory-rich environment for interaction and learning in an outdoor setting.

 Inspiring Sustainable Change

•       The project is proof of the talent and dedication of young architects from the Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University.

It demonstrates how creative thinking can lead to positive change and promote sustainable design in our communities while addressing environmental concerns.
