Design-Build workshop – Phase II

The Institute of Architecture and Planning at Nirma University (IAPNU) completed the second of the two-phase Collaborative Design and Build Workshop from February 14 to 24, 2026 with its partner institute, THWS Würzburg, Germany. Two community-friendly structures were constructed in Jaspur village near Nirma University using earth and bamboo construction techniques – one inside A K Patel High School campus and the other on the Lakefront near Jogni Maa temple. A total of 30 students from IAPNU and 14 from THWS participated in the workshop. In Phase I, the students had understood the nature of building materials through exposure visits and workshops in their home institutions and had developed designs collaboratively. The most suitable design iteration for each site was chosen from these. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Aparna, Prof Sujan Umaraniya from IAPNU and Prof. Karl Zankl from THWS. Experts involved in the workshop were Ar. Sanal Thathapuzha and Er. Keyur Sarda.
