About

  • Jaydeep Bhagat is an Academician, Architect and Urban Designer with an overall experience of more than 24 years. He attained an undergraduate degree in Architecture from CEPT University, Ahmedabad and a Master of Architecture from University of Illinois at Chicago. He has been awarded distinguished ?James and Anne Nagel Fellowship Award? at University of lllinois at Chicago along with honorary scholarship and advanced placement. He has also received eminent ?Vastu-Shilpa Foundation Award of Excellence? and a 'Gold Medal' for his academic performance. In addition, he has also been recipient of Indian Institute of Architect National Award for ?Excellence in Architecture? in public architecture category. His formative learning experience in the field of architecture began while working with eminent Architect Anant Raje in 1995. Since then he has been involved in the design of institutions, housing, urban design and individual residences. He has worked on projects of international repute in renowned, influential and multi-disciplinary firms including Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), at both Chicago and London office. With an objective to engage with the real challenges of Indian cities, he has instituted ?Open Spaces Design Studio?, focusing on both private and public realm projects which are meaningful propositions for a city. Previously, he held the position of Director and Professor at Kalol Institute of Architecture and Design. He has also been engaged in academic teaching at various institutes of Architecture in Ahmedabad since 1996. His area of interest is in contemporary architecture, urban design and urban planning and city conditions with issues related to meanings and context, change and transformation, dwelling and culture and infrastructure and environment. He brings important insights related to cities through teaching, research and practice in Architecture and Urban Design.
