Nirma University hosted the International Conference on “Urban Transformation and Heritage Conservation” on Feb 27, 2024. The conference featured 13 presentations by esteemed speakers from India, Germany, and Italy exploring the intricate relationship between historic cores and urban development. Invited as speakers. Prof. Miki Desai , Prof. K.T Ravindran, Prof. Utpal Sharma, Prof. Karl Zankl, Ar. Ashish Trambadia, Prof. Daniele la Rosa, Prof. Gunther Benkert, Ar. Debashish Nanak, Dr. Deepika Shetty, Ar. Sumesh Modi, Prof. Gitanjali Rao, Ar. Abhijeet Lakhia, and Prof. Pratima Singh shares their work. The diversity and scale of global context in the field of Heritage Conservation makes the conference more engaging and interesting. Students witnessed an international Conference where the guests were from all around the globe. The conference highlighted the collective responsibility in the conservation process. Every city’s core, its old city, holds its identity through people, culture, and activities. Unfortunately, these cores are now under a growing threat. Money and influence, even among the elite, pose risks to listed heritage buildings, with laws susceptible to exploitation. Discussions delved into the intricate dynamics between historic cores and urban development. The conference posed a critical question: “Are we the Owners or the Custodians of Earth ?”
