Three students from the Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University—Nishtha Bapna (23BAR060), Tanisha Seth (23BAR081), and Devansh Paliwal (23BAR092)—were shortlisted and participated in the prestigious NASA India, Laurie Baker Center Exposure Program held from December 1 to 4, 2025. Organized by NASA India in collaboration with the Laurie Baker Center, the programme offered an intensive, hands-on introduction to the sustainable and context-responsive construction philosophies of Sir Laurie Baker. The exposure programme focused on cost-effective, climate-responsive architecture and traditional building techniques. Sessions introduced students to the ideology of Laurie Baker, the work of COSTFORD, and environmentally responsible practices such as mud construction, cob walls, and adobe brick making. Participants also gained practical experience in random rubble masonry, brickwork using the rat-trap bond, bamboo construction, filler slab systems with Mangalore tiles, and arch construction without conventional formwork. The students noted that direct engagement with materials deepened their understanding of sustainability beyond theoretical learning. Their participation reflects the institute’s strong emphasis on experiential learning and reinforces its commitment to responsible, context-sensitive architectural education.
