Furniture Design Workshop

A group of 21 students and 2 faculty members from IAPNU have successfully completed an Furniture Workshop RSP. Students undertook the task of making furniture for donation to Manav Setu as part of their summer RSP program of two weeks. A total of 21 students under the guidance of Assistant Prof. Krishna Kumar Yadav Prof. Falguni Goghari and started the work by visiting and documenting the site, Manav Setu, which is an NGO working towards educating underprivileged children from the age group of 4-14 years. The students interacted with the volunteers and listed down their requirements which included furniture for children and movable partition wall for their main hall. A visit to the Nirma University scrap yard was conducted afterwards to collect items which could be remodelled into workable pieces, discarded metal frames, Castrol oil barrels, metal standees, aluminium window panels etc., were then transported to C-block construction yard where they were scraped and polished with red oxide to get rid of rust. The students designed furniture pieces taking into consideration the existing objects and ordered new material as per their requirements in the first week of the workshop. The next week was spent in manufacturing the furniture in the wood workshop with the help of the chief carpenter, Gopal kaka. By the end of the second week the students had managed to produce a total of 51 furniture items which included low height tables, chairs, blackboard partition walls, games, benches etc.
