Wardha RSP

The students of B. Arch, 2019 Batch went to Wardha in Maharashtra for Related Study Programme (RSP) from 29th Nov till 24thDec, 2021. It was a life time experience for the students who took part in the RSP and also for the faculty members who accompanied them. This RSP was supervised by Ar.Jignesh Patel who is also a visiting faculty at the IAPNU.The three major works undertaken by the students were: re-construction of a cowshed into a Community Space, construction of a Brick Jaali wall and construction of an Arch over a window at Gramseva Mandal Campus,Wardha. From physically experiencing the texture and weight of construction materials to understanding the issues while laying them on site, this field studio acquainted students with the real experience of constructing buildings on ground. Understanding developed in classroom related to construction materials and their application, types of brick bonds, flooring, levelling, plastering etc. got pragmatized.A bamboo workshop was also held at Wondergrass in Nagpur, to understand the diverse usage of bamboo as a material and its joineries. Every week students visited a nearby village to study the vernacular architecture and their construction system.

Not just the assigned works but also the place where they stayed i.e Bapu Kuti (residence of Mahatma Gandhi at Sevagram, Wardha) taught them life lessons. The campus pursued a sustainable life style. From growing organic vegetables to endorsing selfless service, Gandhi’s principle of leading a simple life was practised in the place. The students without any hesitance enjoyed the place and work abiding by the implicit principles of the campus.
